Artists, writers and musicians have resided in Mojacar since the 1960’s.

Mojacar holds an exceptional position as a lookout dominating the surrounding area. The town boasts a close heritage with its Moorish past and remains loyal with its architecture - white washed cubist houses and narrow winding streets.

The name evolved from the Arab name 'Muxacra' which evolved from the Roman name 'Mons Sacra'. This 'sacred mountain' refers to a pyramid shaped hill below the current site of the town and believed to be the location of an ancient Phoenician harbour.
