Velez Blanco is just a 1hr drive from El Cortijo Grande. Don Pedro Fajardo was awarded rule of the people for his assistance in surpressing the Moors. The Castle he built above the town boasted an interior patio which was one of the jewels of early Renaissance Spain - its carvings are believed to be the work of Lombardo-Venetian scholars. Abandoned in 1913, the patio now resides in the METROPOLITAN MUSEUM in New York.
